California summer-season growth: Expanding capacity and new options for global connections
California summer-season growth: Expanding capacity and new options for global connections
Alaska Air Cargo June 03, 2025

This summer brings exciting growth for our California cargo capacity as we add new nonstop flights and global-network opportunities for San Francisco (SFO) and Southern California — and offer more nonstop shipping options from San Diego (SAN) than any passenger airline.

Here are the new routes and routes with more frequent flights taking off in the next few months:

Ca Cargo Network

San Francisco: More nonstop flights to Hawai’i

Starting June 12, we will offer new nonstop flights on Alaska Airlines 737 aircraft between San Francisco and both Kona (KOA) on Hawai‘i Island and Līhu‘e (LIH) on Kauaʻi. San Francisco-Kona service will be four times a week and San Francisco-Līhuʻe will be three times a week.

With these new flights, Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines together offer daily nonstop flights to the four largest Hawaiian Islands from San Francisco, an important West Coast hub in our 130-plus city global network.

San Diego: Three new nonstops

We’re also expanding our presence in San Diego with three new destinations and increased flight frequencies on existing routes to improve connections between Southern California and cities across the country.

On August 20, we will begin year-round service to Phoenix (PHX), followed by Chicago O’Hare (ORD) and Denver (DEN) on October 4, with each route served by multiple flights each day. These new routes on the combined Alaska and Hawaiian Airlines network build on our new exclusive nonstop service between San Diego and Washington, D.C.’s Reagan International Airport (DCA), and will give us 44 nonstop destinations from San Diego.

And looking further ahead into the fall: At the end of October, we’ll also increase the number of flights between San Diego and Las Vegas (LAS), Sacramento (SMF) and San Jose, California, (SJC) to six daily flights.

Ontario (ONT): New service

On June 12, we start daily Alaska Air Cargo service between Ontario and Honolulu (HNL), creating a new option for shipping between Southern California and Hawai’i, with seamless connections through our growing global network to destinations in Japan, South Korea, Australia and New Zealand.

Los Angeles: More widebody capacity and freighter service with global connections

We’ve increased capacity on our daily Los Angeles-Honolulu service, adding a second 787 alongside our existing A330. With two 787s and one A330 now flying this route daily, this is officially an all-widebody route, providing more lift and reliability for your shipments.

Our overnight freighter service also connects Los Angeles with Anchorage via Seattle three nights a week this summer, streamlining shipping between Southern California and the state of Alaska. And with our new daily nonstop flights between Seattle and Tokyo Narita (NRT) on Hawaiian Airlines A330 widebody aircraft — and our four daily flights between Los Angeles and Honolulu — our California customers have more options than ever to reach international markets.
